Horace Oyd Price aka H.O. Price

Price History

H.O. Price was born in Abbeville, Alabama in 1915. His family moved to Florida when he was very young. It wasn’t until the early 1940’s that he started making his own lures. Mr. Price copied most of the Florida makers and at age 10 was handed a lure blank from Jim Pfeffer himself to sand.

This is a wonderful story that you need to read for yourself. I read it on a Sunday morning in the tackle shop, and it takes you back in time illustrating what it must have been like living in early Florida and the struggles of living in a harsh environment. The story also depicts places like Indian River Lagoon, Mosquito Lagoon, The Cape Kennedy Space Center where several other famous Florida lure makers worked and how the government condemned the 40 acres Price owned for his fish camp. This story and many others can be found in Volume II of “Florida Lure Makers and Their Lures”.
